My name is Amy and after years of pondering and procrastinating I am finally launching a blog with a purpose. In my teens I had MySpace, Blogger, and Tumblr to rant, rave and release some of that teen angst but for the last few years and really since hitting my mid-twenties I have wanted to create my own online space to share bits and bobs I’ve learned and created, and to also connect with others outside the realms of the usualing social media platforms. Somewhere that I could call my own, for original content to go.
SO, this is my blog which is attached to my website!
To tell you a little about myself - I’m 28, Irish, and recently finished a postgraduate diploma in Applied Psychology which has led me to some interesting self-work focused realisations and epiphanies. My initial undergraduate degree was in languages (French and Irish, to be exact) and I have a fierce love for our native Irish language, An Ghaeilge, which I am intending to share in this space and across the linked social media accounts.
I’ve also recently found my spiritual path, after years of wandering aimlessly and searching for something that aligned and resonated with me I can now, without hesitation or an uncertain “I think…”, proudly say, I am an Irish Pagan who has been researching and learning about Witchcraft for a number of years. I would consider myself a solitary Kitchen Witch, who’s recently incorporated some Green Witchery into her Craft. I started this research primarily through learning about Tarot. I’ve been working with Tarot for about 5 years now, more consistently in the past 2 years, and also researching other methods of divination as well as aspects of spiritual and magical practice such as journeying, protection and mostly, recently, working with deities. My practice has led me to make more eco-friendly and conscious choices in my daily life too, and to continue to improve in all areas of my life.
I also am an avid cook, baker and homemaker - I use “homemaker” in a literal sense (and low-key because it rhymed), I enjoy and take pride in creating a welcoming and cosy home with my partner. I also love to create and craft (my most recent projects have been personalised face masks, because COVID) and I’ve also started making art again which I hadn’t had the time, drive or inspiration to do in years.
Why “The Crafty Cailleach”? Well, I’m crafty in both practice and cunning; I like to make things, be innovative and I can be clever or sly when I want to be. Cailleach [pron. kai-lock] then is a word as Gaeilge (in the Irish language) which is commonly used for “witch”, but it has many different meanings which I’ll leave for another blog post.
So, that’s me, for the moment.
Le dea-ghuí,
The Crafty Cailleach
